Our First Week Living Aboard! 1

Although we’ve done a 50/50 liveaboard in the past, living aboard full-time after closing our office/home has been very different. We ended up renting a storage shed near our property in Arizona and moved all our belongings into it. Now we are aboard full-time and we are really loving it!

The transition was fairly smooth, really. We already had the boat outfitted with everything that we need to live because we were used to doing nine-day sails out to Catalina Island to spend at anchor, so the boat obviously had to have everything needed. So, moving aboard we already had a complete galley with food stores that could last us about three months. We also had all the toiletries and even a washing machine aboard. It all really seemed like a natural transition. The only part that has been a bit awkward is having our office set up on the boat and handling client calls. I had to set up our network and forward the office number to my cell phone, but it has worked out well. First Mate will be finished with her cases within about six months and we will not have to worry about working after that. Being that we are now set up to handle the office from the boat, we will be able to sail pretty much where we want and only come back to the marina on the occasions when First Mate will have to do an appearance.

About Captain Tom

Over 10 years sailing and over 3500 miles under our keel. Was an engineer (EE) for over 30 years, then after moving into management, decided that the corporate world was no longer for me. Ran my wife's law office for 15 years and recently retired. Now we live aboard and sail the California coast, soon to leave for the Sea of Cortez.
